Can I use other peroxide gel in my trays?
We do not recommend using any other gel than our brand name Perio Gel™ in the trays. Our Perio Gel™ medication has gone through extensive testing and formulation to make sure that it is safe for patients to use.
Please take note that the Perio-Care gel advertised as an alternative to Perio Gel™ oral debriding agent/oral wound cleaner contains 2 chemicals that may cause redness, burning, itching, or swelling as contact dermatitis: Diazolidinyl Urea and DMDM Hydantoin. The chemicals are added to cosmetics and various personal care products in order to prevent spoilage and fend off yeast, bacteria, and molds. The preservatives act as formaldehyde-releasing agents. We are unaware of the chemicals being used in other oral care products.
What are the ingredients in the gel?
The active ingredient in Perio Gel™ is hydrogen peroxide. It occurs naturally in the body and is also a powerful antimicrobial. Hydrogen peroxide penetrates the protective slime layer covering bacterial communities, and it can break down the cell walls of bacteria causing infections and oral wounds associated with gum diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis.
How long do I need to wear the trays with the gel?
15 minutes is ideal. You get a good bacterial kill rate and the most exposure to oxygen at 15 minutes. If you are short on time, 10 minutes is good. If you wear the Perio Trays® with the Perio Gel™ for longer than 15 minutes, it doesn’t help you or hurt you. Hydrogen peroxide breaks down into oxygen and water.
How many times a day should I wear the Perio Tray™ with the gel?
Doctors prescribe wearing times. Please call your doctor to ask about your specific conditions. If you have the Perio Tray™ from Perio Protect and have had to delay your regular care due to the coronavirus outbreak, twice a day is likely to be recommended until you can get into the dental office for periodontal maintenance therapy. If you have been wearing your trays once a day, continuing the daily treatment is important to keep inflammation and infection at bay.
How long will a tube of Perio Gel™ last?
The frequency of usage will determine how long a tube of gel will last:
- When wearing 1x/day, a tube of Perio Gel™ will last approximately 6 weeks.
- When wearing 2x/day, a tube of Perio Gel™ will last approximately 3 weeks.
- When wearing 3x/day, a tube of Perio Gel™ will last approximately 2 weeks.
What is the shelf life for Perio Gel™?
A Perio Gel™ Sales product has a 24-month shelf life.
What is the Perio Tray™ from Perio Protect?
The Perio Tray™ is the only tray cleared by the FDA to deliver medication deep into periodontal pockets, the spaces between teeth and gums. Research shows that the Perio Tray™ holds medication deep under the gums long enough to address infections causing gum disease, reducing bleeding and inflammation and decreasing the depth of the pockets. Authentic Perio Tray™ carriers have the blue Perio Protect logo embedded in the material. The Perio Tray™ offers excellent homecare and is always used in conjunction with the necessary in-office treatments. Happy side effects include fresher breath and whiter teeth.
